Teen struck by truck in Caddo Parish has died

Posted: Updated:

A teenage boy has died from his injuries after being hit by a truck Friday night.

According to the Caddo Sheriff's Office, 16-year-old Dylan Blaine died at University Health on Saturday. Blaine was struck just before 8:00 p.m. on Friday as he walked along the 11000 block of Providence Road southwest of Shreveport.

The driver of the Toyota pickup truck that hit the teen has been identified as 19-year-old William Moulton of Shreveport. Deputies say Moulton was leaving church when he struck the 16-year-old, who was reportedly wearing dark clothing.

Life Air was called, but could not land due to inclement weather conditions.

The congregation inside the Providence Road Baptist Church was somber Sunday, as they listened to a sermon about how to deal with tragedy. Church Pastor Darrell Dean explained that for the two families that typically sit in the pews of the church, the lesson is all too real.

"We are just moved by the tragic timing of all of this and to be in the midst of the Christmas season," said Rev. Dean and suspects the teenagers were probably at the church helping set up the stage for an upcoming Christmas play.

"You just try to wrap your mind around that, we don't understand why God chooses to take people home, before they had a chance to live a full life? But it's not our place to ask why, but just to try to put our arms around these families and just say we are here for you and we love you," said Rev. Dean.

Blaine's family tells KSLA News 12, they are too heart broken to speak on camera about the accident. While one family is mourning the loss of one of their own, Pastor Dean says the other family of Moulton, is also struggling to cope with the situation. "I guess it's very unique for a church to have both families involved, to try to walk as a church family, with both families and try to be a support to both," Rev. Dean said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit.
