BIENVILLE PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

A Bienville Parish highway is back open following a tanker-trailer wreck that resulted in a hazmat spill Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 12:50 p.m. on LA 517 6, miles west of Bryceland.

Louisiana State Police say the driver of a tanker trailer carrying petroleum distillates ran off the roadway and overturned.

The driver, identified as 45-year-old Alan Ross Henderson of Scroggins, Texas, was taken to the hospital in Minden with minor injuries and later transferred to University Health in Shreveport. He was driving for EastTex Crude Oil company out of Leesburg.

State police say Henderson was cited for careless operation. He was wearing his seatbelt.

The roadway was closed in both directions for hazmat cleanup and is expected to remain closed until at least midnight.
