A Homer man has died as a result of injuries suffered in a wreck Monday afternoon in Claiborne Parish.
It happened just before 1 p.m. Monday on US 79 at Sanders Road. Louisiana State Police say a 2002 Saturn passenger car driven by 67-year-old Jessie Culverhouse was heading west on Sanders Rd. when he failed to yield at the stop sign at the intersection.
The Saturn crossed directly into the path of a northbound tractor trailer driven by 41-year-old Ronald A. Cummings Jr. of Grand Cane. After collision with the tractor trailer, state police say Culverhouse's Saturn traveled off the roadway and overturned.
Jessie Culverhouse was taken by Life Air Rescue to University Health in Shreveport with critical injuries, where he died early Tuesday morning. A passenger in the Saturday, 24-year-old Christopher Lamon, was also taken by Life Air to University Health, where he is said to be stable.
The driver of the tractor trailer, 41-year-old Ronald A. Cummings of Grand Cane, received minor injuries.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
State police say routine toxicology samples were obtained from each of the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
Troop G has investigated 19 fatal crashes resulting in 22 fatalities this year.
