COVINGTON, TN -

(WMC-TV) - An alert school bus driver tried to stop an early morning burglary at the newest pharmacy in Covington, Bradford Pharmacy, on Highway 51. The entire robbery, which lasted a short 57 seconds, was caught on camera.

Surveillance video shows two people breaking into the pharmacy with an ax, stealing nearly $100,000 in medication, then fleeing the scene in a Chevy Traverse.

The bus driver, who was on her way to work, noticed something suspicious happening at the pharmacy. Quickly thinking, she tried to block the burglars in the parking lot. The suspects were able to get away, and now police hope someone out there can help identify the people responsible.

"If we could sell it for what it's sold for on the street, we'd be well off. It's a big business," said pharmacy owner Dr. Justin Bradford.

After using the ax to break through both sets pharmacy doors, the suspects jumped behind the counter and loaded up plastic crates with Hydrocodone.

"They made it look so easy, like they were, like it was a routine job," said Dr. Bradford.

Dr. Bradford's pharmacy is not the first one targeted by thieves in West Tennessee.

Police say thieves have also stolen Hydrocodone from pharmacies in Dyersburg, Ripley, Union City, and Bradford. Pharmacies in Mississippi and Georgia have also fallen victim.

Police say these stolen pain killers have a street value of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"It looks like they're hitting pharmacies that are real close to the highway. Where they get in and get out very quickly," said Covington Police Chief Buddy Lewis.

Investigators believe the pharmacy thieves have connections to Georgia.

Something that stood out to investigators in the surveillance video was the pair of shoes one of the suspects was wearing. They were bright pink.

If you recognize the suspects in the surveillance video, call Covington Police at (901) 476-9036.
