Rain mixed with sleet mainly north of Tyler and Longview

Posted: Updated:

A cold rain has developed across most of East Texas. At times this rain has been mixed with sleet and freezing rain.

Most of East Texas this morning is seeing temperatures between 33 and 35 degrees keeping the precipitation in the liquid form. Our northeastern counties are under the greatest risk of seeing freezing rain where parts of MT. Pleasant and Jefferson are seeing ice accumulate on trees and power lines. With the air temperatures in these areas around 31 degrees the warm ground is helping to keep roads wet instead of icy. You may run into a few slick spots on bridges and overpass but major travel problems are not anticipated at this time.

By noon all areas of East Texas should reach above freezing and a cold rain will continue throughout the day. Highs will struggle to reach the middle and upper 30s with wind chills at times in the 20s. An upper air disturbance will move across East Texas tonight and tomorrow morning. As this system moves through we will see a few scattered rain showers mixing with snow at times. Right now no accumulation is anticipated. Stay with kltv and kltv.com for the latest developments.
