Cause, victim identified in fatal Cedar Grove fire

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The man killed in an apartment fire in the Cedar Grove neighborhood Friday morning has been identified.

31-year-old Antroious T. Kinsey was found dead outside an apartment unit at The Pines Apartments in the 8000 block of Line Avenue when firefighters arrived just before 2:30 a.m.

Officials say they believe he died of smoke inhalation. Firefighters say a 7-year-old was revived at the scene. The juvenile was taken to University Health in critical condition.

Officials say it appears that Kinsey went back into the apartment unit to rescue the 7-year-old, but collapsed from the smoke.

According to SFD Chief of Special Operations and Safety Scott Wolverton, the cause of the fire was found to be unattended cooking.

Officials say the fire heavily damaged the apartment unit. The remaining seven apartment units in the building had some fire, smoke and water damage. Seven of the eight apartments were occupied in the building and all other residents escaped without injury.

Some residents were able to return to their apartment units with minimal damage. The apartment manager is working to relocate others who cannot return to their units due to damage.
