BOWIE COUNTY, TX (KSLA) -

Six men have been arrested in what Texas Parks and Wildlife officers are calling a four-wheeler theft ring.

Officers recovered 6 ATVs reported stolen from East Texas and Southwest Arkansas after responding to a trespassing complaint on a private deer lease in Bowie County.

When they arrived, the men riding the ATVs scattered, but Bowie County Game Warden Daniel Kessler says they were later stopped with 3 of the four-wheelers in the back of 3 different trucks.

Kessler says further investigation led them to Little River and Howard Counties in Southwest Arkansas, where more stolen property was found.

Kessler says the theft ring was made up of immigrants who may be in the country illegally. "The individuals, many what appeared to be illegal aliens and are stealing the four wheelers and selling them to other individuals in the community, many of which have been identified as illegal aliens as well."

Those arrested are being held at the Bi State Justice Center. No bond has been set. Warden Kessler says immigration officers have gotten involved with the case.

Officers say they do not know how long the alleged theft ring has been operating. The investigation is ongoing.
