LA Tech Barnes named C-USA player of week

RUSTON, LA (KSLA/Louisiana Tech Sports Information) -

Louisiana Tech cornerback Adairius Barnes was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after recording two interceptions against Southern Miss in the Rivalry in Dixie game last Saturday.

Barnes was honored by the league along with East Carolina QB Shane Carden (Offensive POTW) and UTSA kicker Sean Ianno (Special Teams POTW).

For the second consecutive game a Louisiana Tech defensive back recorded two interceptions as Barnes picked off two passes in the Bulldogs 36-13 victory over Southern Miss, 36-13. The Port Gibson, Miss. native narrowly missed a third pick, as it fell through his hands. Barnes was credited with two solo tackles as Louisiana Tech won its second straight game.

Barnes is the second Bulldog to be honored as a C-USA Player of the Week this year joining Kyle Fischer (Oct. 28) who was named Special Teams Player of the Week after connecting on a school record five field goals at FIU.

Louisiana Tech (4-5, 3-2 Conference USA) plays at Rice (6-3, 4-1) Saturday at 6 p.m. in Houston in a game televised on the CBS Sports Network.
