BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A 32-year-old man is facing more than a handful of charges after taking police on a high speed chase.

The incident started shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department. We're told an officer attempted to pull a vehicle over in the 1800 block of Airline Hwy. for speeding, but the driver refused to stop.

Cpl. Don Coppola explained that the officer followed the vehicle across the Huey P. Long Bridge (old Mississippi River bridge). At that point the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office was called in to assist with the chase.

After crossing into West Baton Rouge, the suspect, later identified as Jessie Bibbins of Baton Rouge, drove his vehicle in the grass behind a residential area. He then abandoned his car and attempted to flee on foot.

During the foot pursuit, Bibbins allegedly tripped and fell on a concrete slab near a home. At this point officers were able to apprehend him.

Bibbins sustained lacerations to his face and was treated by EMS at the scene.

Bibbins was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Drinking in a Motor Vehicle, Resisting an Officer, Speeding, Driver's License Suspended or Revoked, Insurance Required, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, and Distribution of a Schedule I Drug. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
