Southeast Louisiana will join the rest of the nation on Veterans Day in honoring the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the US military.

Several events were held over the past few days to show appreciation to the veterans of the Baton Rouge area, but more are planned.

There will be a Veterans Day ceremony at the Old State Capitol on North Boulevard from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is sponsored by the USS Kidd Veterans Memorial. Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne will be the keynote speaker.

There is also a Veterans Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. in the Student Union Courtyard at Southern University.

The 6th Annual Salute to Veterans will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Iberville Parish Veterans Memorial on Railroad Avenue in Plaquemine.

The City of Central Veterans and Soldiers Celebration will be held in the courtyard of Central Intermediate School beginning at 6 p.m. Congressman Bill Cassidy will award a flag flown over the US Capitol to some veterans during the event. The flag will then be flown over the veteran's memorial in Central.

St. Andrew's United Methodist Church on Monitor Avenue in Baton Rouge is hosting a Veterans Day presentation at 6:30 p.m. A World War II veteran will share first-hand experiences, photos and artifacts.

If you know of other events being held, please send the information to neighborhoods@wafb.com.
