SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - 3 people were injured Saturday afternoon when a Life Air Rescue medical transport helicopter crashed just outside the Shreveport Downtown Airport.
It happened around 12:45 p.m. in a field at Hawn and North Thomas Avenue behind Metro Aviation in northeast Shreveport.
The first units on the scene found a helicopter that had crashed on its side. Shreveport Fire Department The chopper, an EC135, which is being leased and used as Life Air Rescue for local medical air transport, was on a test flight at the time of the accident. The crew reportedly experienced some type of mechanical problems leading to the crash.
The pilot and two mechanics were taken to Willis-Knighton Hospital with minor injuries, Fire Chief Louis Johnson said.
The helicopter, which is owned by Metro Aviation, was in for routine maintenance.
The Federal Aviation Administration and Metro Aviation are looking into the cause of the incident.
