Rumors of a threat and lockdown at Northwood High School have some parents pulling their kids out of class, but school officials and police say there has been no specific threat and no lockdown.
While there is not a lockdown in place, and no specific threats have been reported, it appears that social media chatter and the appearance of additional security on campus has helped fuel the rumors. Lt. Don Gibbs with the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office says deputies did respond to a minor wreck outside the campus Friday morning, unrelated to any rumors or alleged threats.
However, Caddo Parish schools spokesperson Victor Mainiero has confirmed that additional security is among some "proactive steps" that have been taken in ensuring safety as a priority on campus. Mainero says "a few extra random room searches" have also been conducted.
Mainiero says they conduct those random room searches at least once a week, regardless of any threats.
Mainiero suggests that if anyone knows of any specific threats on social media or otherwise, they should contact the school resource officer.
