PANOLA COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Two Carthage High School students died after a one-vehicle accident in Panola County on Tuesday night.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 17-year-old Collin Williams of Carthage was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:26 on Tuesday night. His passenger, 17-year-old Madison Nlemtschk, also of Carthage, was airlifted to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. Madison died on Wednesday afternoon from her injuries.

DPS troopers were dispatched to the scene of the one-vehicle accident on Farm to Market 123 around 8:50 p.m. The car was traveling eastbound when it hydroplaned and struck a tree. Both Collin and Madison were ejected from the vehicle.

Collin and Madison were students at Carthage High School. Neither was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred.

Panola County deputies, Inner-community Fire Department and East Texas Medical Center paramedics also responded to the scene.

A bank account has been set up in Collin Williams' name at First Bank and Trust in Carthage.

Carthage Independent School District Superintendent J. Glenn Hambrick released the following statement regarding the deaths of the two students:

"Collin Williams was a second year student at Carthage High School. His time here at Carthage was marked by his love of welding and working with his hands. Collin excelled in the welding shop, and was known to build sets for the Drama department whenever someone had an idea for him to tackle.

Madison Niemtschk was a transfer student from Garrison ISD. She had a love for art, and was known during her short time at Carthage for her love of drawing. Madison was set to begin painting windows of area businesses for the Christmas holidays, as a fund raiser for CHS.

Both students will be dearly missed, and counselors have been working closely with teachers to help all those through this time of grief.

Our thoughts and prayers are with both families. Services are pending."
