Talk of politics heats up in Cincinnati - KSLA News 12 Shreveport, Louisiana News Weather & Sports

Why you should care about the Cincinnati mayoral race

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

With the mayor's race in it's final hours, talk of politics has heated up in the city.

"I've been watching on street corners, you know, honk for whoever to vote for, but I haven't really made up my mind yet," said voter Andre Williams.

His thoughts are echoed.

"I'm gonna sit down tonight and look over the issues and get a better idea," one voter told us at Fountain Square.

But what about the voters who live outside the Cincinnati city limits?

"I know just enough to be dangerous. I know who I would  vote for if I were over on this side of the river. I don't agree with the streetcars," said NKY voter Jackie Bauereis.

The fact is, whoever is running city hall does matter to the region, and to people all over the area. We spoke with Xavier political expert Gene Beauprie. He said the region is identified by Cincinnati, and that the mayor acts as spokesperson for the region. He also said Cincinnati's mayor helps make regional decisions, and that Cincinnati acts as a hub for jobs. That doesn't include all the taxes people pay when they eat, shop, and play in the city limits.

Polls open at 6:30AM in Hamilton County on Tuesday, and they close at 7:30.
