KSLA News 12 Editorial: Nov. 4th-Historic Preservation

You don't know what you have until it's gone.

That's really true when it comes to tearing down historic buildings. And that's why the work of the NORLA Preservation Project is so important. It's a new non-profit working to save historic structures in Shreveport.

Their first project is to acquire and rehabilitate six shotgun houses on Peabody street. The homes had been scheduled to be demolished but not anymore. They will now be saved for future generations.

There are many examples of old, historic buildings and homes in our area that have been saved and are still in use today. Unfortunately, there are other examples like Governor Huey Long's first Shreveport home that have been torn down and lost forever.

That's why we should encourage and support groups in our communities that are working to save our past.

I'm James Smith.
