SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Garden-Fresh Foods is initiating an expansion to their voluntary recall on various ready-to-eat salads, slaw, and dip products sold under various brands and code dates.

The food company said the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

A news release further states that although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The products are sold in various sizes, mainly 2 lb to 5 lb containers. The products were distributed in the following states: WI, MN, IA, IL, OH, IN, TX, FL, MA, MO, MI, PA, AZ, CA, and distributed to retail stores and food services.

Consumers who have purchased any of the suspect products are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Currently there has been no illness or complaints related to this recall.

Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-645-3367 Monday through Friday between the hours 8:00 A.M. and 4:30 P.M.
