The man accused of killing five people and leading police on an overnight manhunt Tuesday has been arraigned and booked into the Kaufman County Jail. Charles E. Brownlow Jr. was booked into jail at 10 a.m. Wednesday on charges of capital murder by terroristic threat and evading arrest.

Five people were found dead at four different Terrell locations Monday evening. Brownlow was arrested following a car chase with police, sheriff's deputies and state troopers. The chase began Monday night and went into the early morning hours Tuesday. At about 1:30 a.m., the chase ended when Brownlow crashed his car on College Mound Road and fled into a wooded area south of U.S. 80, where he was later apprehended.

A woman's body was found around 5 p.m. with a bullet wound to the head. Just 30 minutes later, Terrell firefighters responded to a house fire where the body of another woman was found. Investigators quickly linked the two crimes together and began searching for Brownlow, who lived at the burning home.

At 10:27 p.m., police found a man and woman dead inside another residence. A 3-year-old child was found sleeping inside a different room of the home but was not injured. Ten minutes later, an officer spotted Brownlow at a Terrell convenience store. A deceased victim was also found at the scene.

Brownlow fled on foot but was apprehended at 1:30 a.m., hiding in heavy brush. Names of the five victims have not yet been released.
