SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A $40 million facelift is underway at Willis Knighton Hospital South. The renovations were announced publicly by Willis Knighton Hospital System President James Elrod Tuesday evening.

Elrod spoke to a full room at the hospital South campus. He announced renovations plans which include a 430 car parking garage, new lobby area, new building for doctor's offices, and a new pediatric unit.

He says the changes are coming as a result of population growth and recent changes in other hospital systems.

"It's not so much what it brings to the Willis Knighton System but what it brings to this community. We are struggling to keep all of these very highly skilled surgeons, the pediatric specialist, ect, We cannot let them get away, they are so very important to the babies and the children of this community," says Elrod.

Elrod says that already the hospital has recruited 6 Pediatric Specialist to work in the new center.

The annual revenue at the facility currently is 273 million dollars, and the hospital campus has the largest neonatal care unit in the region.

The construction is expected to take about 15 months to complete.
