911 emergency service restored in Texarkana

Posted: Updated:
BOWIE CO., TX (KSLA) -

911 service back up in the Texarkana area and surrounding counties in northeast Texas at this hour, except for Morris County.

Authorities say the system went down at approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday. The affected area included Texarkana, Bowie County and Morris County. Cass and Miller County, Arkansas are also back up and running. Crews are still working to restore services in Morris County. In the meantime, Cass County is intercepting Morris County calls.

During the outage, Texarkana-area citizens were asked to use 903-798-3876 in the meantime, and all other areas were asked to call their respective alternate numbers for assistance.

The cause of the failure is under investigation. Officials said 911 calls didn't just involve the county, any number of entities including phone and cellular companies, towers and where the person is calling from.

Bowie County deputies say they reported the problem to the ArkLaTex Council on Governments, which is the regional agency that oversees the 911 program. Bowie County says ATCOG was able to tell them the problem didn't lie with any of the affected counties.
