LA Dept. of Education releases 2013 District report cards

Public schools across the state are showing major gains in student achievement.

The Department of Education released the school performance scores for last year, and for the first time ever, 14 percent of the state's public schools got an "A" and 29 percent got a "B."

The number of failing schools is also at an all time low, dropping to eight percent from 12.

Caddo Parish received a C, the same grade as the previous year. Bienville, Red River, Sabine, Webster and Natchitoches schools also remain unchanged, with Cs. Bossier and DeSoto both received a B, the same the previous year.  Claiborne Parish also showed no improvement from the previous year's D. There were no failing school districts reported in Northwest Louisiana.

The State Superintendent of Education says a change in this year's grading formula can be credited for some of the improvements.
