TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

The Texarkana, TX Fire Department wants to get the word out about some phony fundraiser calls apparently being made in their name.

According to a statement released by the fire department Thursday afternoon, someone is making it appear that their calls are coming from the fire department. They say the majority of the people receiving the calls are not from the area.

"We want to make sure everyone knows that the Texarkana, Texas Fire Department does not solicit donations for the department itself and we will never call to solicit in any manner" the statement reads.

The fire department has only 2 organizations that they assist with fundraising. Those are the Muscular Dystrophy Association and their local Shop with a Cop and Firefighter program.

When fundraising is being done for these two organizations, it will always be in person by a uniformed or readily identifiable member of the department.

Anyone with questions about someone asking for donations on behalf of the fire department can contact the department at (903)798-3994.
