SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The search for a new superintendent for Caddo Parish schools continued Tuesday, with the first of 3 interviews with finalists that were selected by the school board last week.

Shreveport native Theodis Goree currently serves as an area superintendent in Mansfield, Texas. He says that many things have aligned perfectly for him to return to his hometown, and it's a dream come true. "I'm interviewing for my dream job. I believe that every single child, all 41,000 of them should have that opportunity. I started in the exact seats that they're sitting in, and I want to make sure that they all have that opportunity," Goree explained.

Goree has a Ph.D in philosophy in education leadership. He has worked as a principal, assistant superintendent, and an area superintendent in Mansfield, Texas.

Goree says he brings a relationship building and personable personality that will ultimately help him in reaching his goals to help Caddo Parish Schools. "First, the curriculum issue, which is easy. I think I can handle that. The biggest challenge will be the budget, because there will have to be cuts. Cut and dry, in order to have a balanced budget you have to make cuts. Another goal will be to really be around the community and the triangular relationship of the home, the school, and the community, and that will be one of my biggest strengths."

Two more finalists, Timothy Magner and Terrence Brown, will be interviewed this week. Magner is currently Director of Training for the LSU Health System in Shreveport. Brown currently Southeast Regional Superintendent of Memphis City Schools.

The school board is expected to make a final decision on Friday.
