SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

Local animal activists say having your pets spayed and neutered can help decrease the rate of animals being put down in area animal shelters.

Robinson's Rescue has given 24,000 surgeries since the organization began  serving the area since 2008.

Robinson's Rescue is teaming up with the Krewe of Barkus and Meow and the Shreveport Bossier Animal Rescue for an event they're calling "Dogtoberfest."  The fun starts at 5 p.m. Friday for "Yappy Hour" at Marilyn's Place located at 4041 Fern Avenue.  Cost is $10 per person.

This morning KSLA News 12's Olivia Vidal joins us live from Robinson's Rescue to talk about the dog and cat overpopulation in the Ark-La-Tex.

KSLA News 12 This Morning starts at 4:30 a.m.
