RUSTON, LA (KSLA) -

A new mascot is expected to be introduced at Louisiana Tech on Friday.

The last mascot, an English Bulldog named Tech XX, died in late July 2012 of a heat stroke after a veterinary assistant left him outside in the heat too long on a bathroom break.

The assistant initially claimed the dog had been stolen, prompting a search and a plea for help in tracking the beloved dog down.

Four days later, it was revealed that the employee had confessed to making the story up to cover for the dog's death due to negligence.

The employee was fired, and a search for a successor to Tech XX, also known as "L.T.," began.

According to a statement released Thursday, "Louisiana Tech University will make a special announcement during its Homecoming Pep Rally to introduce the newest member of the Tech Family."

The announcement and activities during the pep rally will lead up to Louisiana Tech's homecoming game against the University of North Texas at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 19 at Joe Aillet Stadium.
