Police in Rock Hill say a McConnells man is accused of contacting a 12-year-old girl on Facebook and offering her money for sex.
According to the Rock Hill Police Department, 21-year-old Benjamin Thrift was charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor or attempt, second degree, on Wednesday.
Police say the case began when a teacher at York Preparatory Academy was giving a lesson on proper internet behavior. During the class, a student reportedly told the teacher she had received an "inappropriate" message on Facebook.
Thrift reportedly contacted the preteen girl earlier this month and offered her money "to do anything he wanted to her for an hour," the report states.
When he told her that he was 21-years-old, she reportedly told him he was too old for her.
The girl's mother gave police permission to search her cell phone and Facebook account. After an investigation, Thrift was arrested.
He is being held on an $800,000 bond at the Moss Justice Center.
