Union Pacific investigating death of Hallsville teen struck by train

HALLSVILLE, TX (KSLA) -

Union Pacific is investigating the death of a Harrison County teenager on Tuesday, after she and her two dogs were struck on the tracks.

It happened near the intersection of Roy Green Road and Highway 80. The girl, identified as Kristina Lawrence, was killed.

According to Harrison County authorities, dispatchers received a call just after 6:30 p.m. that an eastbound Union Pacific freight train was involved in an accident with a girl who was standing on the tracks with two dogs.

According to Union Pacific, the engineer did everything he could to warn Lawrence, but she made no effort to get out of the way.

Video from the on-board engine cab of the train is under review by the Union Pacific investigator's office in Longview.

Lawrence was a junior at Hallsville High School. Counselors have been made available for students at the school.
