SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A new electronics and appliance store is coming to the King's Crossing Shopping Center on Youree Drive.

Rod Thompson in the City of Shreveport Permits & Inspections Office confirms that renovations are under way on the buildings that used to house Circuit City and Linens n Things next to Lowe's to make way for Conn's Appliances.

Thompson says the retailer applied for their permit to renovate about 3 weeks ago. A certificate of occupancy can't be issued until the work is complete, and Thompson says that's probably "a little ways off."

Conn's is an electronics and appliance store chain headquartered in Beaumont, TX. According to their press releases, "Conn's is a specialty retailer currently operating over 70 retail locations, in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona."

Conn's has 2 locations in Lafayette, LA.

A company spokesperson has not yet responded to inquiries regarding an expected opening date.

A deadly virus is threatening the crawfish industry in Southwest Louisiana. It's called white spot syndrome virus and it was first discovered in Thailand, but somehow it made its way to ponds in South Louisiana and specialists are struggling to find the funds to research a solution.  “The catch was increasing and increasing and then it dropped 70% and that's when you saw the dead crawfish floating in the water,” said a crawfish farmer of 34 years, Ian Garbarino.
