KSLA News 12 Editorial: October 14th-Term Limits

How long should politicians be allowed to stay in office? Two years? Six years? Forever?

There is a proposal before the voters in Caddo Parish to extend the number of consecutive terms a parish commissioner can serve. If passed, it would allow commissioners to stay in office up to 20 consecutive years. Currently, they can only serve a maximum of 12 years straight.

The Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce opposes extending the time. In its opposition, the chamber board writes,"Public service is intended to be an opportunity for citizens to serve their community for a limited period of time. We do not believe that public service, as an elected official, is meant to be a lifetime career."

Good point. The election is Saturday.

I'm James Smith.

I hope we are all teaching our kids to be respectful of others, to hold doors open, to say please, thank you, yes ma'am and yes sir. We don't need to expect anything in return, just be proud that you were brought up right.I hope we are all teaching our kids to be respectful of others, to hold doors open, to say please, thank you, yes ma'am and yes sir. We don't need to expect anything in return, just be proud that you were brought up right.

There may be no clear right way or a wrong way to handle a school shooting. At least in Maryland, where an armed school resource officer did his job, is an example of a better way, says Joe Sciortino, vice president and general manager of KSLA News 12.There may be no clear right way or a wrong way to handle a school shooting. Once again, we have a school shooting. This time, in Maryland, an armed school resource officer did his job. He jumped into action and engaged the shooter, who died at the scene. ... I would hope the number of armed school officers is growing.
