HARRISON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
According to the Harrison County Sheriff's Office, 13-year-old Paul Bass was found Friday morning around 11:10 a.m. near Crossroads Baptist Church on Farm to Market 31 just southeast Marshall. He has been taken to Willoughby Detention Center where he will remain until further placement.
Bass was spotted in the same area Thursday evening. A housekeeping crew at the church spotted him in the sanctuary area around 5 p.m. A member of the crew asked for his name and he hesitated before giving a false name. The boy then fled the building after a short conversation with the employee, abandoning his backpack and shoes.
An investigation revealed that Bass had spent some time inside the church and on the church's roof. An extensive search of the church and the area surrounding the church was started at 5:15 p.m.
Bossier City Specialized K9 Team members and Harrison County K9 deputies found evidence of the boy's location and were able to follow him for about one-fourth of a mile before his scent was lost. A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter used infrared equipment in an attempt to locate Bass in the heavily wooded area. Law enforcement and volunteers continued to search in a reduced area throughout the night Thursday into Friday morning.
