NATCHITOCHES, LA (KSLA) -

There is a lot of history rolled up in those flaky little meat pies that are famously linked to the city of Natchitoches.

The recipe dates back 300 years. But it wasn't until the 20th century where meat pies became popular.

One local restaurant, Lasyone's, helped put meat pies on the map.

Word has it that during the early 20th century, street vendors sold meat pies, and wealthy women started making them out of their own kitchens.

Angela Lasyone's father, a butcher at the time, provided the meat for them until he decided to make meat pies himself.

"So he started concocting his own recipe and this is what he came out with and this is what we have been making for years," said Lasyone.

Angela Lasyone is a second generation owner of this famous restaurant; a tradition since 1967.

Lasyones's makes 400 to 1000 meat pies daily.
