SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport Police have taken a man to the hospital for a mental evaluation after he barricaded himself inside a home in the South Highland neighborhood Monday night.

It happened around 11:15 p.m. at a home in the 4100 block of Southern Avenue. Police say they received a report that a man armed with a rifle had fired a shot at a victim. The man then ran back inside the home and barricaded himself inside. Police blocked the home and area off for about 3 blocks.

The man finally surrendered around 2 a.m. Tuesday. No one was injured. Although it was reported that the man had a weapon and pointed it at a victim, police later learned this was inaccurate because there was no evidence that this happened.

The man was not charged because he had a documented mental history. He was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
