SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The Ark-La-Tex experienced the coolest temperatures so far this season, Monday morning. That means that heating bills will be on the rise.

The Salvation Army provides services to help low income families keep their homes warmed through a program called, "Utilities Assistance." Shreveport Salvation Army spokesman Lakesha Mosley tells KSLA that approximately 800 people apply for assistance each month, and she advises people in need to register as soon as possible. "We basically will release the funds as long as we have them. It's a first come, first serve basis. So as the city and federal government release the funds, we will release them to the city," said Mosley.
