Patrol units in Bossier Parish are sporting a new look.
Some of the older model Crown Victorias in the sheriff's fleet are being overhauled with new reflective striping and logos. The new reflective striping is a big safety addition so the units can be clearly seen at night.
Soon, the older Crown Victoria models will be replaced with the Chevy Tahoe. Ford stopped manufacturing the Crown Victoria in 2011.
"When the Crown Vics were stopped being made in 2011, we had to make a decision on what we were going to do to replace that fleet, and research determined that the Chevy Tahoes were the best bang for the buck if you will. We got them on a state contract, which means we got them at a really good price," said Lt. Bill Davis.
The new SUVs will be hitting the road in the next few weeks. They hope to replace the entire fleet of vehicles with the Tahoes in the next 5 years.
