Politifact Virginia: Governor's race and government shutdown

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

In this week's Politifact Virginia report, the government shutdown has become a central issue in the race for governor.

Here is what Terry McAuliffe had to say about Ken Cuccinelli at a recent debate: "The only one on this stage that almost had (a shut down) effected was Ken Cuccinelli, when he almost derailed the Virginia budget when he was trying to defund Planned Parenthood. So he's the only one on the stage that actually tried to shut down our government."

Was Cuccinelli ready to shutdown the government over Planned Parenthood funding? According to Politifact Reporter Nancy Madsen, McAuliffe's statement is so false his pants are on fire.

"McAuliffe failed to give credible evidence that Cuccinelli tried to shutdown state government. He manufactured a crisis, blamed it on Cuccinelli and tried to use it for political gain, so it disserved our lowest rating ‘pants on fire'," Madsen said.
