Cincy church offering free weddings to couple affected by shutdown

MT. AUBURN, OH (FOX19) -

The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Mount Auburn is inviting any couples who had to cancel their weddings on federal property due to the government shutdown to have their ceremonies in the church's garden free of charge.

All over the country, wedding permits on federal properties have been cancelled because of the government shutdown. Couples planning an October wedding at the William Howard Taft National Historic Site in Cincinnati, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, or any other federal site are scrambling to come up with an alternative. Twenty-four weddings had been scheduled to take place this month on the National Mall in Washington alone.

"People have been severely and adversely affected by this shutdown in countless ways, and we hope this small gesture will help ease the burden on couples for whom this should be one of the most important times of their lives," said the Rev. Paula Jackson, rector of the Church of Our Saviour/La Iglesia de Nuestro Salvador.

"Our garden is small, but lovely, and we have the ability to move the ceremony indoors if the weather isn't cooperating," she said.

Couples who wish to take the Church of Our Saviour up on this offer should contact The Rev. Paula M. Jackson at 513-207-1248 to make the necessary arrangements.
