VICKSBURG, MS (KSLA) -

A Mansfield, LA man wanted for allegedly shooting his girlfriend has been captured in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

According to the Vicksburg Police Department, officers executed an arrest warrant for 73-year-old James Lee Barber at a relative's home in Vicksburg on Saturday afternoon.

They say Mansfield police had requested their help in apprehending Barber, who is accused of shooting his live-in girlfriend in the back with a shotgun and fleeing the state.

Vicksburg police say a weapon believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.

According to police, Barber was found hiding in a closet at the relative's home in Vicksburg and taken into custody without incident.

Barber was processed and taken to the Warren County Jail pending an extradition hearing in municipal court.
