    Earlier this year we told you about a Bowie County family wanting to have a special birthday for their soon-to-be two-year-old son. You may recall, this child is deaf, and though the family's plan to sing "Happy Birthday" to him this year will not take place, they are one step closer to their goal for birthdays to come.More >>

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

Nearly two dozen local nursing homes competed in this year's Nursing Home Olympics.  It was held at the Bossier Municipal Complex.  KSLA News 12's Ron Young was the Mater of Ceremony for the event. 

Nursing home clients participated in wheelchair races, bean bag throws, and dancing.  Participants received medals and winners received trophies at the awards ceremony.

KSLA News 12's Domonique Benn dropped by the event to spend time with the participants and congratulate them.

Local nursing homes that participated include:  Booker T. Washington, The Bradford, Colonial Oaks Guest Care, Desoto Retirement Rehab, Green Meadow Haven, Guest Care at Springlake, Harmony House Nursing & Rehab, Live Oak Health Center, Mansfield Nursing Center, Nurse Care of Shreveport, Pilgrim Manor Guest Care, progressive Care Center, Roseview Nursing & Rehab, Shreveport Manor Guest Care, Toledo Retirement & Rehab Center, Town & Country Health & Rehab, Whispering Pines Nursing & Rehab.

The nursing home clients look forward each year to participating in the annual Senior Olympics.  It's a chance for them to get out and have fun.
