LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles man is accused in the armed robbery of the Wing Stop restaurant on Ryan Street.

According to a news release from the Lake Charles Police Department, DeVonte Len Roberts was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on four counts of armed robbery, four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and one count of aggravated assault on a police officer.

He is being held on a $1.2 million bond.

Authorities said it happened around 11:54 p.m. Thursday.

Officers were dispatched to the location in reference to an armed robbery in progress.

Authorities said upon arrival of the first police officer, a male, armed with a firearm, exited the business.

Lake Charles Police Department Cpl. Larry Moss said when the suspect ran from the business, he pointed a handgun at the first responding officer.

"That officer was forced to fire on the suspect in self defense. Though the suspect was not struck by gunfire, the officer's actions were never the less, stellar in nature. He was forced to stop his vehicle, safely egress that vehicle, draw his weapon and shoot as he moved in one direction and the suspect move laterally in another direction. Then have the wherewithal and courage after this lethal encounter to engage in a foot pursuit into the darkness with this armed subject," Moss said.

Authorities said the suspect then ran southwest toward Hale Street and June Street with officers in pursuit. The officers then lost contact with the suspect.

Officers then established a security perimeter around the area. K-9 officers assisted in tracking the suspect, later identified as Roberts. He was located thereafter in the 3000 block of Ryan Street.

Authorities say no one was injured.

The investigation continues.

Those with information in the case are asked to call Detective Colby Thompson at 491-1311.
