SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport police are searching an area off of N. Market St. after a brief chase ended with the driver ditching an SUV while it was still rolling, leaving a 3-year-old girl behind in the vehicle.

It all started around 11:30 Thursday night with what police describe as a "routine traffic stop" near the intersection of Barton & St. Landry Dr. The man at the wheel reportedly gave chase for about a block before bailing from the moving SUV.

Police say the officer stopped the rolling vehicle and the child was not hurt.

The person driving the vehicle escaped into a nearby apartment complex, but police say they know who they are looking for.

The child's mother was at work at the time, but police say they have been reunited.

It's not known what prompted the attempted traffic stop.
