BAFB 917th Fighter Group inactivated

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

The 917th Fighter Group at Barksdale Air Force Base officially inactivated during a ceremony on Thursday morning.

This ceremony ended 50 years of history with the 917th units at Barksdale. The first official transfers of the fighter groups 24 A-10's began in April and was completed on June 24th. These transfers were part of budget cuts from last year. The A-10's are now in Tuscon, Arizona.

In addition to the loss of aircraft, the recent Force Structure Action Implementation Plan has taken approximately 580 full and part time jobs from Barksdale.

Most of the 917th Fighter Group people have already found employment with the 307th Bomb Wing or other Reserve units across the country.
