BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A convicted bank robber who was released from prison less than a year ago has been indicted for a bank robbery that happened last month.

The US Attorney's Office - Middle District of Louisiana said Scott Coats, 44, of Baton Rouge, has been formally charged with a bank robbery at the First NBC Bank in Denham Springs.

Coats is accused of taking about $1,500 during the robbery, which happened on August 16. This is the third time Coats has been indicted for bank robbery. He was convicted in 2005 of robbing two banks in 2003.

Those previous bank robberies were a Hancock Bank in Baton Rouge on Nov. 1, 2003 and an AmSouth Bank in Denham Springs four days later.

He was sentenced in February 2005 to seven years in prison for each robbery, to be served concurrently. He was also sentenced to three years supervised release.

He was apparently released early, but officials said he violated the terms in December 2011 and was sentenced to serve an additional two years.
