Albany State head football coach Mike White says Saturday's win over Elizabeth City State was his team's most complete game this season. He hopes that momentum will carry into the Rams' conference showdown with Miles.
White has been happy with the defense all season, but for the first time this year, White was pleased with his team's offense.
Why shouldn't he be? The Rams put up 34 points and 418 total yards with only one turnover.
It's about time says White- who has seen already the Rams' offensive confidence boost with the win.
"You look on their faces and can tell a difference," says White. "Even on the sidelines Saturday, after the game, Sunday when we walk through, so it's huge and I look forward to it to continue."
"I think they're on the right track," he continues.
The Rams look to correct last year's result against the Golden Bears, a 41-6 home blowout loss.
Miles, though, is coming off one of the stranger bye weeks ever.
The Golden Bears' scheduled game against Concordia was canceled at the last minute after CC's bus caught fire on the way to the game.
No one was injured, but all of the Hornet's equipment was destroyed.
White says the Bears having that day off makes a little bit of a difference in preparation, but the game will still come down to the teams' performance on the field.
"One way or the other, you just don't have the film from this past weekend," White says. "But you know, they'll be ready. It's an off week for them I guess. But they'll be ready. I think we just got to come out and be ready because they're going to come out fast."
One worry White doesn't have is his defense, who ranks third in the SIAC in total defense.
White says the defense hasn't been doing anything special. They just have good players making the right plays.
"They're just working hard at everybody trying to carry out their assignment," says White. "You got some good players over there. But it's nothing magical they're doing over there. Just trying to play hard and cover for each other."
"We're just doing what we need to do as far as alignment wise, as far as fit wise, and just doing what we're coached to do," says LB Marcavius Dudley.
The Rams kick off against the Golden Bears Saturday at 6 p.m. in Fairfield, AL.
