BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Weatherize may sound like a made-up word, but it can make a real difference when you get your utility bill.

The weatherize assistance program in East Baton Rouge can help. Cleola Muse got some of her repairs done last year.

"They fixed my attic insulation, and put a wrap on my water heater," said Muse.

Muse noticed the changes instantly. Her costly light bill went from $120 to under $100. She is one of many people in EBR that needed weather repairs.

Urban Development Director Jamie Mabile of the East Baton Rouge Parish Community Development Office said the Department of Energy gave a $600,000 grant to Louisiana. Mabile says most rural parishes don't get grant dollars, and it doesn't matter when you weatherize, as long as you do it.

"Weatherization is a good time in Louisiana any time because of the fall and the winter but also the hot summers," said Mabile.

But, there are some requirements that you should meet before being considered. You must be 60 years-old, disabled, or a family with children with limited income
