Six Louisiana schools have been recognized as 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.
Most Blessed Sacrament School was the only Baton Rouge area school on the list, which includes 236 public and 50 private schools nationwide.
The award honors public, private, elementary, middle, and high schools where student perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in student achievement.
"Excellence in education matters and we should honor the schools that are leading the way to prepare students for success in college and careers," said Education Secretary Arne Duncan. "National Blue Ribbon schools represent examples of educational excellence, and their work reflects the belief that every child in America deserves a world-class education."
The other five schools from Louisiana are Ella Dolhonde Elementary School and Haynes Academy School for Advanced Studies in Metairie, Lake Forest Elementary Charter School in New Orleans, Morehouse Magnet School in Bastrop and Pearl Watson Elementary School in Lake Charles.
