BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A Baton Rouge man was found dead in his backyard early Monday morning on Jefferson Ave.

Police say Gary Murphy, 42, had multiple stab wounds when his roommate found him around 5:50 a.m.

Murphy's brother, Demario Dixon, said the roommate called him in hysterics.

"Yelling and screaming and crying on the phone saying that my brother was layed out.  He think he might be dead," Dixon said.  He says he told the roommate to call 911.  "I called him back and he said he's dead, he's dead."

Dixon says he raced to his brother's home.  When he arrived he found crime tape and police everywhere.

"I'm still trying to grasp the whole thing," Dixon said.  It's just hard cause my brother really didn't bother nobody.  He was - did his own thing, he was nice."

Dixon says his brother moved to Baton Rouge about a year and a half ago, from California.

One woman, who spoke with us off camera, says she and her neighbors are used to murders on the weekend.  She says Murphy stayed to himself.

Police are also investigating another stabbing, on 72nd Street.  It happened around midnight.  Donald Ray Thomas, 47, was found dead in the middle of the street.  He was feet away from his parents home.  Police say Thomas had some sort of altercation with another person before being stabbed.

If you have any information on either case, call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.
