Alabama wins home opener against Colorado State, 31-6

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Alabama Crimson Tide won a lazy victory on Saturday in their home opener against the Colorado State Rams.

The first quarter was mostly push-and-pull between the two teams, with no scoring made until it was almost over. Alabama found their way into the endzone with 39 seconds remaining in the quarter. Covering 84 yards, the 8-play drive ended with a 3-yard rush by Kenyan Drake. Cade Foster's extra point kick was good.

Following the score, the Rams were kept to 16 yards and forced to punt. Alabama's Kenyan Drake blocked the punt and Dillon Lee recovered the ball and took it 15 yards for a defensive touchdown. Foster's kick was good.

The Tide followed up with a field goal halfway through the second quarter. After being held to 4th and 9 at the Colorado State 29, Cade Foster was called to the field to kick a 46-yard field goal. The kick set the score at 17-0.

The Rams found their chance to score at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. The 9-play drive covered 55 yards, but Colorado State couldn't get into the endzone. Jared Roberts kicked the 47-yard field goal from the Alabama 27-yard line.

Roberts returned to the field with 5 seconds remaining in the 3rd. This time, the Rams pushed down the field in a 12-play drive for 63 yards. While facing 4th and 7 at the Alabama 14, Roberts kicked a 31-yard field goal. This brought the score to 17-6.

The Tide returned to scoring in the fourth quarter. After forcing a fumble from Rams QB Garrett Grayson, Alabama's Trey DePriest recovered the ball at the Colorado State 30-yard line. The next play saw A.J. McCarron land a pass to DeAndrew White for a 30-yard touchdown. Foster's extra point set the score at 24.

A final drive by Alabama saw the Tide grab one last touchdown in the game. The 8-play drive covered 65 yards. Chris Black carried the Blake Sims pass 14 yards for a touchdown. Adam Griffith kicked the extra point to close out the score at 31-6.

Next week, Alabama takes on Ole Miss at home. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
