A Shreveport teen has been arrested following an alleged gun incident aboard a school bus Friday afternoon.
Shreveport police officers were called to the 3500 block of Hearne Avenue just after 3:30 p.m. Friday after a Caddo Parish school bus driver reported finding a handgun on a bus.
The driver told police a student fled from the bus after a semi-automatic .380 caliber handgun was found inside a backpack belonging to the student. The weapon, which was not loaded at the time, was reportedly discovered after the student's backpack fell to the floor of the bus and retrieved by the bus driver.
Police say the 14-year-old, who is enrolled as a student a Linear Middle School, was one of five students on the bus at the time of the incident.
Upon the bus driver's discovery of the weapon, the teen reportedly fled out the back emergency exit of the bus and was last seen running on Hearne Avenue. No students on the bus were injured.
Hours after the incident, the teen was taken into custody after authorities were successful in making contact with the juvenile's parents.
Police say at this stage of the investigation, it is unclear why the teen was in possession of the firearm. He now faces charges of juvenile in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a firearm free zone and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Authorities seized the weapon and the teen was booked into the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
