SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air delayed or canceled more than a dozen of their flights Friday because of inspections, according to the company's Facebook page.

Allegiant Air has one scheduled daily flight into and out of Shreveport from Las Vegas.

In a statement posted about midnight, the airlines said there will be a number of flight delays system-wide because of inspections of the emergency slides on the company's MD80 aircraft.

"Allegiant is committed, above all else, to the safety of our passengers and crew, and we are dedicated to working around-the-clock to correct the issue," the Facebook post read. "We apologize for the disruption in travel plans."

According to the Shreveport Regional Airport's website, Allegiant's arriving flight from Las Vegas was scheduled at arrive at 12:05 p.m. Friday, but now is not expected to arrive until 11:15 p.m.

The flight from Shreveport to Las Vegas was supposed to leave at 12:50 p.m. and arrive in Vegas at 1:55 p.m. It's now scheduled to leave Shreveport at 11:55 p.m. and arrive in Vegas at 1:00 a.m. Saturday.

Shreveport Regional Airport spokesman Mark Crawford says those delays could change, depending on Allegiant's ability to solve their problem.

According to KVVU in Las Vegas, a spokesperson for Allegiant Air could not immediately be reached for comment. It is not clear what prompted the sudden decision to inspect the airplanes.

In the Facebook post, the company said it had activated additional call center staff, and that travelers impacted by the delays and cancellations will be contacted.

The post recommended passengers check their flight's status at allegiantair.com or call 702-505-8888.
