SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Caddo Middle Magnet teacher is one the top finalist for the Music Educator Grammy Award honoring her unique teaching style and dedication to keeping music in the schools.

Teacher Krista Fanning has taught music for more than 20 years, and five of those years have been at Caddo Middle Magnet in Shreveport.

Her class can be a little noisy, because in her class kids get to express themselves through music and laughter.

"I teach with humor because I figure if they are already laughing and comfortable and happy then they are going to learn faster," says Fanning.

Fanning's unique teaching style was noticed by her students and colleagues who nominated her for the first ever Music Educator Award.

Out of 30,000 nominated teachers, fanning was selected as one the top 25 finalist.

"She's the best teacher I've ever had," says student Wyatt McCrary.

If Fanning wins, she will be flown out to Los Angeles for the 2014 Grammy Awards and will receive a $10,000 honorarium.
