SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A neighbor has been arrested in connection with the fire that heavily damaged a home in Shreveport's Martin Luther King neighborhood late Tuesday night.

55-year-old Sammie Sherman is charged with aggravated arson.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 1900 block of Linear Street at 11:56 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming out of it when they arrived.

All four occupants got out safely, and firefighters had the blaze under control within a matter of minutes. Still, the home was heavily damaged.

Investigators say Sherman, who lives just a few doors down, was arrested just a few hours after the fire. "They were able to interview some of the occupants of the home. He had made a lot of threats, actually carried through on one of the threats, allegedly, and that's what lead to the arrest," says Scott Wolverton, SFD Chief of Special Operations and Safety.

Wolverton says Sherman is facing an aggravated arson charge because there were people inside the home at the time. If convicted, Sherman face a potential sentence of 6 to 12 years in prison without parole and a fine of up to $25,000.
